Boy, 2, found wandering alone in South Austin; DCFS investigating | Video

After a toddler was discovered alone on Cicero Avenue in South Austin, Chicago police and DCFS began an investigation.

WLS/CHICAGO — Early on Wednesday morning, Chicago police discovered a child walking the West Side by himself.
Just before 4:15 a.m., workers at a petrol station in the 300-block of South Cicero Avenue in South Austin noticed a 2-year-old kid who was only wearing a diaper.

Gerald Foster remarked, “I just had to do what I had to do.”

Don’t refer to him as a hero, he said. He acted immediately when his fatherly instincts took over.

He and several pals observed the baby kid wandering the streets alone while he was working their shift.

You may see him walking along Cicero in a CCTV film.

Foster took hold of him and soothed him. The child only kept yelling for his mommy.

I had only one thought: “Let me get this kid; nobody else can have him because I know he’ll be good with me,” Foster said.

They brought the infant inside, gave him a T-shirt from the convenience store, and set out to search the neighborhood for his family.

Someone phoned the police as he left, and they transported the infant to West Suburban Medical Center. He is safe and in good health after a checkup.

Foster is simply happy that he has a job on Wednesday morning.

Detectives from Area Four are looking into the event.

Later on, the child’s parents were discovered.

The Department of Children and Family Services stated that it is also looking into the matter.
