Stella Damasus is speaking out in support of Nollywood filmmakers who are tenaciously battling through obstacles to grow the industry.
The seasoned actress made a poignant video on Instagram to highlight the amount of work that goes into Nollywood films and the oftentimes hurtful internet criticism that they occasionally receive.
Damasus wrote in the Instagram post, “So I’ve been online a couple of times and I hear people attacking the Nigerian cinema business, criticizing our films, and denouncing it.
“It pains me because they think it is simple to gather a large group of people, gather crew, gather the cast, move them to various locations, film from morning to morning, and suffer. Not even constructive criticism, just really terrible stuff.
Nobody, in my opinion, wants to purposefully squander time and resources on a subpar movie. With what we have, we make the best of it. We strive and exert ourselves, which is why our industry is still thriving today.
As was expected, filmmakers reacted favorably to Damasus’ video supporting Nollywood in the comments section.
Without a doubt, the actress is one of the few outspoken voices in the industry that supports Nollywood works without bias.
Additionally, the actress recently debuted “In The Chair,” a YouTube monologue series. The first season of the show began with a monologue against sexual assault.
